Rugged Phone
I do not know when did the rugged phone stand out of the ordinary mobile phones and entered into the view of lots of outdoor sport lovers, workers work in severe environment. However, what can be defined as rugged phones? What is the standard of the rugged phones? There are many answers to these questions, so as to the consumers are difficult to choose one in front of the advertisement of the manufacturers or buy some phone which they do not in need of. Now let us discuss something about the standard of the rugged phone.
Rugged phone is commonly be defined as waterproof, dustproof and shockproof mobile phone. This rugged function is not the as what the nonprofessional manufacturer advertise. In fact, the normal mobile phones can be waterproof, shockproof and dustproof if they are slightly encrypted. So this can not be called rugged phone strictly.
When we are in outdoor, the most situation we will meet is dust and water. For the protection to these two harmful substance, we have relevant standard, that is IP-XX. The first “X” means dustproof level, the second “X” means waterproof level. This standard not only can be applied in mobile phones, but also be used in other outdoor electronic devices, such as digital camera and watch. Currently, the highest IP standard is IP68. The communication product, especially mobile phones can not reach totally sealed(because they have microphone, loudspeaker), so the highest standard is IP67 or IP68.
The standard for the outdoor rugged phone can be summed up in the following:
1. IP-XX waterproof and dustproof seal standard --- outdoor electronic products Universal waterproof and dustproof seal standard;
2. RPS (Rugged Phone Standard durable mobile phone standard) --- SONIM internal testing standards;
3. AGM OEPT (Outdoor Environment Performance Test outdoor environment full proof test) --- in IP - XX seal standard based on the increase falls, crushing, vibration testing standards, Raytheon-China internal standard;
4. MIL-STD-810F environmental engineering considerations and laboratory tests --- US Defense Test Method Standard.
