Hashrate is often the first specification buyers compare when reviewing ASIC miners. It describes an important aspect of machine performance, but it does not explain the complete operating requirement.
A machine with a higher hashrate may also require more power, a different cooling arrangement or an electrical installation that the buyer does not currently have.
A practical purchasing decision starts with the intended mining application and the conditions at the installation site.
ASIC miners are designed for specific algorithms. A machine should not be assumed suitable for every cryptocurrency simply because it is listed as mining hardware.
Confirm the exact model, algorithm, rated hashrate, power requirements and included power supply. Product families may contain several variants, so the model name alone may not provide enough detail.
The quotation and technical documents should describe the same version.
Hashrate should be reviewed alongside power consumption. For miners using the same algorithm and comparable measurement units, energy efficiency provides another basis for comparison.
Check that the figures refer to the complete machine and state the relevant operating mode or test conditions. Avoid comparing specifications that use different assumptions.
Purchase price should also be considered alongside installation costs, electricity use, cooling and maintenance.
As a simple illustration, a miner drawing 3 kW continuously would use 72 kWh over 24 hours, before additional cooling or other facility loads.
Multiply the expected energy use by the applicable electricity tariff, then include any relevant site charges and supporting equipment consumption.
This calculation estimates operating electricity costs. It does not establish mining profitability, which also depends on changing network conditions, asset prices, fees, uptime and other factors.
Confirm the required input voltage, connections and site electrical capacity against the exact model’s documentation. Electrical suitability should be reviewed by a qualified professional.
Cooling is equally important. Air-cooled and liquid-cooled machines have different installation requirements and should not be treated as interchangeable.
BITMAIN’s support guidance emphasizes checking power consumption and the capacity of the intended electrical installation. Its setup instructions also illustrate why connection requirements must be verified by model.
Noise, heat discharge, dust management and maintenance access should be included in the site review.
For used or refurbished miners, ask what work has been performed and which components have been inspected or replaced.
Where testing is included, request records identifying the machine, test duration, operating mode, hashrate, power measurement method and relevant environmental conditions.
A short test demonstrates performance during that test period; it does not establish the machine’s remaining service life.
Confirm warranty terms, included accessories, packaging and the procedure for reporting a discrepancy after delivery.
Before requesting a quote, prepare your preferred model or algorithm, quantity, equipment condition requirements, site power and cooling arrangements, and destination.
